What is old montgomery mall?

Montgomery Mall, located in Montgomery County, Maryland, was one of the first enclosed shopping malls to be built in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. It opened in 1967 and featured two anchor department stores, Sears and Hecht's (later acquired by Macy's).

In the 1980s and 1990s, the mall underwent several renovations and expansions, including the addition of a food court and a movie theater. It also welcomed new anchor tenants such as JCPenney and Lord & Taylor.

In the early 2000s, the mall faced competition from newer shopping centers and began to experience declining sales and store closures. In 2012, the mall was rebranded as Westfield Montgomery, and major renovations were undertaken to update the shopping center's appearance and offerings.

Despite these efforts, Westfield Montgomery continued to struggle, and several more stores closed over the years. In 2020, the mall announced plans for a major redevelopment that would include the addition of residential and office spaces. The future of the former Montgomery Mall site remains uncertain.
